What is Let’s Playing?

What is “Let’s Playing?”

One, let’s say rainy, April day in Japan two men sat down to play some recently purchased Famicom games. This would have been a much more common occurrence had it been the late 1980s and the men were Japanese. Alas, neither of these things are the truth.

One of them had been watching too much Game Center CX at the time and thought it would be fun to record the videos with banter over them. Thus was born “Eric and Alex Wish They Were Japanese Children” which is a terrible name for anything, no matter how you look at it. After many a minute of deliberation the name “Let’s Playing” was thought of and the project was born.

What exactly is that project? To show the English speaking world little known Japanese games. And to bring joy into the hearts of every viewer. Simply put, that’s what “Let’s Playing” is all about.

Why “Let’s Playing”?

Living and working in Japan will give one the opportunity to encounter plenty of misspoken, yet enthusiastic, English. One common mistake is the use of “Let’s” followed by the gerund form of a verb. While this means the name “Let’s Playing” is based on a common grammatical error, we like to think of it as a representation of the raw energy of trying to express yourself even though you may not do it perfectly all the time. “Let’s Playing” in grammar and in itself is not perfect, but it is honest.

Who’s “Let’s Playing”?

Let’s playing is the work of two men, Eric and Alex. Eric resides in rural Japan with his wife and stuffed Dragon Quest Slime while Alex resides in The Center of the Universe, Japan with his girlfriend and schizophrenic cat.
